The German law offers the new urban category of “Urban Areas” (in German: Urbane Gebiete, BauNVO 2016). It is enabling a stronger programmatic mix and higher building density. This studio investigates the potentials of this legal framework and asks for the development of prototypical hybrid buildings.

Ruhrmoderne describes post-war architecture and urban settings from 1954-1973 of the Ruhr area. The studio re-activates forgotten monuments and urban concepts in and around the city of Marl. In cooperation with the initiative Ruhrmoderne, Theo Deutinger and other universities.

Münster 2030 • Ideas for Urban Intensification
The Westfalian city of Münster is a popular place of residence. 30.000 newcomers are expected to become residents by 2030 according to demographic census (2015). This urban design studio is an ideas competition looks for new ways of living and housing, small flats, strategies for using niches, concepts for the conversion and the transformation of urban space. Münster Visions – „Bauprojekte“
In 2017 the Sculpture Projects in Münster take place, a vibrant event changing the life in the whole city for a limited time. This context triggered the idea of the “Bauprojekte” a format for unsolicited architectural and strategic interventions and innovations for places in the city.
Schlaun Competition 2014
The 4th Schlaun Competition deals with development perspectives for the former 36 ha mining area of Sterkrade in the city of Oberhausen (Ruhr Area).
